Gaston is Getting a New Roommate

Captain Y was pretty excited last weekend because he finally got a big Axis.

I still haven't seen the new deer in person.  Captain Y dropped him off at the taxidermist on the way home.  Yup, that means another deer head will grace the walls of Casa Y.  In fact we're planning to hang him on the wall facing Gaston in the Library.  The only room where we have 10 foot ceilings.  We broke the news to Gaston and he took it pretty well.

He just looked down on us with his stoic gaze as Captain Y explained that there is nothing to be worried about because both bucks were about the same size (about 175lbs) so they could peacefully coexist.  Just wait until Gaston finds out the new Buck will be a pedestal mount.  We don't have a name for the new guy yet, I told Captain Y I could not possibly name him without meeting him first, so we'll let you know when the big home coming occurs and announce his name.  I'm sure you are all on the edge of your seat.

What the heck is an axis anyway?
Axis are an exotic deer species brought to Texas from India.  They are about the same size as whitetail but have white spots - kind of like a whitetail fawn - all of their life.  All bucks are 6-pointers but older deer have a taller rack and longer kickers (the bottom set of tines).  Axis are now found all over the Texas Hill Country and because they are an exotic species have no hunting season and can therefore be harvested year round.
